Recruitment
and Profile
Raising

A strategy to raise the profile of nursing and midwifery careers to Māori whānau, hapū and iwi will be developed.

The intended audience will include rangatahi Māori of secondary school age and mature adults looking to transition into health career. It will consist of three phases:

  • Development of a strategy to support the marketing and promotion of nursing and midwifery professionals to Māori communities,
  • Support the implementation of the strategy, and
  • Evaluate the project goals.

Healthcareers - Return to Health provides information on approved Nursing Council New Zealand (NCNZ) courses for registered nurses thinking of returning to practice, along with storie sand feedback from nurses who have already made the move.

The website is part of a collaborative project between Healthcareers, the Nursing and Midwifery Workforce Strategy Group (WSG) and the 20 District Health Boards' (DHBs) Lead Directors of Nursing (DoNs).

Some of  us were scared to take up nursing because you worry that you have someone’s lives in your hands.  And you do, but you also have the opportunity to help them make their lives better.

Leianne Obrien, Kai Tahu
I have the privilege of  catching babies, which is a passion ... If  we weren’t here, I don’t think women would get the care that they actually deserve. Midwifery is women working with women.
